About me & my work:

I am a Taiwanese Japanese Chinese American born in Japan and raised in the US. I was headhunted from the New York Federal Reserve Bank to work in Nomura Research Institute (NRI), the largest and oldest think tank in Japan built by the country's largest investment bank Nomura Securiteis originally for only two years. Now this is my 31st year. I stayed for so long because it was one place where I could do policy-oriented reasearch while getting the full discipline from the market since I have to brief traders and dealers of Nomura Securites and their clients on a regular basis. My experience handling the Latin American debt crisis at the New York Fed back in 1982 also helped me advise the Japanese on how to handle its massive banking crisis. Since then I have advised numerous Japanese prime ministers. I also developed the concept of balance sheet recession to understand the post-1990 Japanese economy. The concept is now used all around the world to explain post-2008 US and European economies.
