About me & my work: I've been tracking the evolution of the economy since the early 1980s. For half that time I ran a consulting practice offering advice to the information industries; the other half has been focused on taking that advice: I ran a think tank, published four books, created two businesses, and continued to advise large and small companies. Currently I'm Founder of Nerve LLC, my innovation advisory firm; a Trustee of the Fundación Innavación Bankinter, in Madrid; Chair of the Innovation Fellows of EY; and I continue to speak and write on the evolution of the economy. My point of view has been shaped by my background in math and economics. Some life-changing books for me: Chance and Necessity (Jacques Monod); The Diamond Age (Neal Stephenson); At Home in the Universe (Stuart Kauffman); and Sugarscape (Joshua Epstein). Consequently I believe (1) everything evolves; (2) self-organizing systems shape the world; (3) agent-based modeling is to social science what calculus has been to physical science--the toolset that will make a body of thinking rigorous and predictive. I'll mention that my first book, BLUR, was a Business Week Best Seller and my most recent, Standing on the Sun, was on the FT's list of the Best Books of 2012.
