Very good at:
+ Telling stories with an odd assortment of sound and image.
+ Creating things. Photo essays, interviews, art, short stories, prints, etc.
+ Slowing people down just long enough to pay attention.

About me & my work:

I am currently “Creative Evangelist” for Blurb, Inc. the end-to-end indie publishing platform. I split my time between the smog-choked arteries of Southern California and the spiritual landscape of New Mexico.

In the deep, dark past I was both a fragrance model and a hot tub installer, but also worked as a newspaper, magazine and commercial photographer. These days I primarily work on long-term projects which take me from the rural corners of the United States to Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia and Latin America.

In moments of weakness, certain schools have allowed me to spread my knowledge to their attendees. Art Center College of Design, Academy of Art University, The Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, The Julia Dean Workshops and the Photo Experience Workshops amongst others.

The way I work is considered outdated, archaic, behind-the-times and too slow, but for some reason I can't stop working this way. Having said that I also love all things new. I've published over 200 print-on-demand titles. This is a number that scares people, and rightly so, but I never said they were all outstanding...just published.

I am currently working on a series of classic photo-essays which revolve around people living artistic, creative lives. All of this work resides on

My work is in the collections of The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The George Eastman House and The Santa Barbara Museum of Art, which is flattering and makes we wonder how this came to be, but ultimately I do what I do because I have an overwhelming need to document. Anything really. You, me, us, and what makes us do what we do.

My links:

Shifter | Shifter lives at the intersection of sound, form and voice, acting as both a visual experience as well as an archive of the creative life. Audio interviews, portraiture, long-form essay and the almighty power of the print merge to form a site that seeks to find and display what drives those who shift our perspective on life as we know it.
