About me & my work:

My largest client now is the Times Square Alliance, in New York. I am commissioning NYC designers to develop new public furniture solutions for this dazzling public space. We have seen some great ideas and I can’t wait to prototype them on the plaza.

Other clients include The Local Development Corporation of East New York, where I am advising a placemaking program, and a private real estate developer who is seeking strategy for future projects.

This is what I used to do:

I'm putting programs in place that may, I hope, help the City of New York serve people better through good design.

I am the Director of Creative Services at NYC's Department of Design and Construction (DDC), where I manage art projects for DDC, run an in-house graphic design team and am involved in policy projects. DDC manages the capital programs for most mayoral agencies, and has a combined streets and buildings budget of over $8 billion per year. Prior to joining DDC in 1999 I was a contributing editor for Dwell and Blueprint magazines, and editor-in-chief of Glass magazine. I curated exhibitions, including "The Pull of Beauty" at the Storefront for Art and Architecture and the National Building Museum, and the first museum show of industrial design in the Northwest at the Tacoma Art Museum.
