About me & my work:

I am a master bespoke tailor. For 130 years my company J.H. Cutler, one of Australia's and the world's great tailors, has provided bespoke tailoring and shirt making services to discerning gentlemen throughout Australia, and across the world.

I represent the fourth generation of my family to take up the tailor's shears. I joined J.H. Cutler, the family business, straight from school in 1965 at 16 years of age. At 18 I followed in the footsteps of my grandfather and father before him, and travelled to London, the home of bespoke tailoring. Whilst working at one of the world's foremost woollen houses Dormeuil Freres, I got to know the tailors in Savile Row. I also attended the renowned Tailor and Cutter Academy in Gerrard Street.

Today as business principal, designer and cutter with nearly 50 years of experience in high end bespoke tailoring, my passion for discrete, personal service, old world hand craftsmanship, and sourcing of the very finest of materials from around the world, continues to deliver clothes of timeless elegance and unparalleled quality.

I ventured into this rare trade with passion, knowing there would always be a buoyant demand at the top end of the market. There will always be those who insist on the very best.

The Coat Route by Meg Lukens Noonan | In late 2005 my team and I completed a particularly significant commission for a valued client. The overcoat, made from vicuna and produced entirely by hand was considered to be the most expensive overcoat ever produced in Australia. In 2013 The Coat Route – Craft, Luxury and Obsession on the Trail of a $50,000 Coat written by American journalist and author Meg Lukens Noonan was published in the United States and Australia. The book tells the story of our making of that bespoke vicuna overcoat.

Business Owners' Wisdom by Brett Kelly | In late 2012 author and businessman Brett Kelly in his new book Business Owners' Wisdom, in which a number of leading Australian businessmen shared their stories featured John Cutler and J.H. Cutler.
